Thank you for the purchase of the Majik Box Venom Boost. The Venom Boost was born from years of frustration, not getting what we wanted out of a commercial boost pedal. Also, having been asked to modify boost pedals from several other brands on numerous occasions, it occurred to us that it would be easier to design our own circuit and sell it in a pedal. So, here you have it, the Venom Boost.

Before plugging in, please make sure to use a high quality, discrete power supply such as a Pedal Power 2 or a Fuel Tank to power your Venom Boost. For battery powered operation, please use a high quality alkaline such as a Duracell, or Energizer. Also use the best quality cables available. These factors will significantly enhance the operation of the Venom Boost.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1) YOU MUST USEA CENTER NEGATIVE TIP ADAPTER ONLY. IF YOU’RE UNSURE IF THE ADAPTER YOU PLAN TO USE IS CENTER NEGATIVE TIP PLEASE EMAIL US AT: info@majikboxusa.com.
ADAPTERS FOR PEDALS SUCH AS THE FULLTONE ‘69, SOULBENDER, OCTAFUZZ PEDALS, MOOGERFOOGER PEDALS AND MANY ELECTRO-HARMONIX PEDALS ARE CENTER POSITIVE. DO NOT USE AN ADAPTER FOR ANY OF THESE PEDALS.
2) IF USING AC, PLEASE REMOVE THE BATTERY FIRST.
3) THERE IS A KNOWN COMPATABILITY ISSUE WITH THE BOSS BCB 60 CARRYING CASE / AC ADAPTER. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING THIS UNIT WITH MAJIK BOX PEDALS.
Playing through clean boost pedals from other manufacturers over the years, we often ran into the same problems – muddy low end, often times ugly overdrive character and attenuated high end. What we aspired to do, was to create a clean boost that would not only boost the signal in a pleasing way, but enhance the sound by shaping the low end properly, and keeping the high end intact. In other words, not flabbing out the low end or dulling the high end as many so called clean boosts do. Think of the Venom Boost as an intelligent booster.

With the simple but effective circuit in place, we realized that there really wasn’t a need for extra knobs for tone or gain or anything else, just one knob for boost. There is plenty of output on tap to drive the input of any amp on the planet.

We usually like to have the Venom Boost, somewhere toward the end of the signal chain, after the distortion and gain effects and sometimes after even the time based effects. This is what we would recommend as a Starting point if you’re using the Venom Boost for solos or parts in songs where you need to be louder and more present. On the other hand, some players use the Venom Boost as the first pedal in their path, especially, if the pedal is going to be on all the time, helping to create the overall sound. Placement is something that should be experimented with. There is no wrong or right place to place a clean boost pedal.
